Details

This uniquely beautiful village house is situated in Pigi, one of the Mani’s most authentic and sought after villages, about 7 minute’s drive from the nearest sandy beach. The flower filled picturesque village has a small mixed population of Greeks and International residents, and it also boasts one of the most popular tavernas in the area which is open from spring until late autumn and to which people come from all over the area. The village also benefits from an all year round bus service between Kalamata and Itilo/Areopoli, which stops at all the local coastal resort villages.
This superb house has been the subject of a sensitive, skilful and thorough renovation by its current owners over the last four years.
The traditionally stone built house of around 157 sqm is situated at the very start of the village, opposite a very pretty natural grotto and huge scented Oleander tree. Because of its location, the house could be said to have the best access in this village, as parking is only a few metres away over level ground. This ease of access is very rare in Mani mountain villages. At the rear of the house there are amazing unobstructed views of the coastline from Agios Dimitrios to Stoupa and beyond. There are also mountain views and the gorgeous views and sunsets can be enjoyed from both of the house’s lovely terraces.
The house is comprised of a large square entrance hall with a pretty coloured glass brick window and ample storage space. A door from the hall leads to a shower-room with toilet and washbasin. This room has been beautifully tiled with Italian marble tumbled mosaics and rustic stone wall tiles. There is a window, an extractor fan and a heated electric towel rail.
An attractive wrought iron and wooden staircase leads up from the hall into the top loft style bedroom. This bright room with vaulted wooden ceiling and pale painted wooden floors has a window and patio door opposite it ensuring a cooling through breeze in the summer, but there is also a new AA rating Daikin Inverter split A/C unit. From the patio doors there are a few steps down onto the bedroom’s private terrace with its stunning sea views, and there is a traditional bamboo sunshade over this terrace.
Moving down a few steps from the hall we enter the very large lounge with its cathedral like vaulted ceiling and natural coloured pine wooden flooring. This room is easily large enough to accommodate a living and dining area. There are two feature arched alcoves with thick wooden shelving for all your displays and books. There are sea and mountain views from this room also. A valuable feature of the lounge is the extremely efficient insert wood burning fire with its double glass doors. The owners had this specially commissioned and built to measure in Germany by Spartherm. This fire ensures that the house stays extremely warm in the winter. For extra convenience, the owners have just installed an award winning, latest model Daikin Split Inverter A/C unit in the lounge also thus ensuring comfort whatever the weather. Wide pine stairs lead down from the lounge through the double wooden doors into the lower lounge or ‘snug’. This versatile room features one whole wall of floor to ceiling built in wooden wardrobes with lime washed louvre doors thus ensuring plenty of storage space for clothes and much more. The room also benefits from a Daikin Inverter split A/C unit, a side window, and the ceiling features very old beams which create a cosy rustic feel, but which have been painted white to enhance the space. These beams also continue into the next room which is the second bedroom. This ‘kamara’ bedroom has lovely honey coloured natural slate flooring. There is an opening from the room to the useful understairs storage area and small window. A feature is a pretty yellow marble dressing table built into an alcove. The room keeps an ambient temperature and stays cool in the summer and warm in winter.
From the lower lounge we pass through another bespoke pine door into a large kitchen. The kitchen benefits from panoramic views of the nearby coastline, the opposite peninsula, olive groves and mountains from the two large windows which run the whole length of one wall. The windows are aluminium double glazed with insect screens and are made by Alumil as are all the windows in the house, but these windows benefit from superior quality gas filled glazing which helps to retain heat or coolness as required.
The kitchen has been handmade out of solid pine by a British Master Carpenter. The pine has been treated with antique wax ensuring a subtle finish. The carpenter also built some tall Shaker style pantry cupboards so there is ample storage space and the rustic open shelving and beautiful wall tiling adds to the country charm. There is an inox /stainless steel Bosch Pyrolytic electric oven, a Baumatic gas hob with cast iron pan holders, and an extractor fan by Franke. The worktop is honed granite effect by Shelman, the granite sink is by Franke and the antique look is completed by a Fiore solid brass mixer tap. There is a stainless steel under counter fridge and a Zanussi washing machine.
A door from the kitchen leads into the main bathroom which has been creatively and beautifully appointed by the current owners. It comprises of a full length extra tough acrylic bath by Scottish company Carron, toilet and rustic wash stand. The wash stand is bespoke and is made from pine, topped off with Italian Rosa marble with a sunken hand beaten copper sink which was imported by the owners from Mexico. There is a frieze of Italian marble, glass and stone mosaics around the bath and brass mixer taps to the basin and bath with shower attachment. There is also a window, an electric heated towel rail, and a Dimplex wall mounted downflow heater, ensuring a well ventilated, warm and dry bathroom at any time of year.
Finally, from the main lounge there is a patio door leading onto the main terrace area with it’s built in bench seating to one side. There is a white retractable awning for shade and the flooring is terracotta coloured tiles. There is plenty of space for plants, a large table and chairs for outside entertaining, or simply relaxing on a lounger and marvelling at the view and amazing sunsets from this west facing terrace.

The owners intend to sell the house furnished, apart from a few items and of course personal possessions.
