In 2004 we brought a property for sale in the Cilento in Campania, Italy. With it's beautiful coastline and mountainous back drop it was never going to be difficult to make the choice to live here.
Holiday spot with a traditional feel
Although it is popular as a holiday destination for both foreigners and Italians, it still manages to maintain it's traditional feel and remain unspoilt. Being close to the town of Agropoli is a bonus as it has plenty going on throughout the year. The coastal villages from Santa Maria di Castellabate to Sapri are quiet from October to Easter.
Short drive to many beautiful villages
We live close to the hilltop village of Laureana Cilento where we restored a farmhouse and cottage with the most magnificent sea view across to the bay of Salerno and the Amalfi
Coast. Within a short drive are ancient villages such as Rocca Cilento, Vatolla, Perdifumo heading right up into the mountains into the Cilento National Park which is so vast and breathtaking and you can drive for miles without passing another car!
Beaches and the best mozzarella
There are endless footpaths for walkers, sandy beaches where you can swim even up to the end of October, the best mozzarella you will ever taste and a tempting choice of wines of the region being Aglianico, Fiano and Falanghina. The Slow Food movement is thriving encouraging only local produce to be used. You can't buy fruit or vegetables which are out of season here! The theatre in Salerno and opera house in Naples offer spectacular productions.
Good rail and flight connections
It has good rail and flight connections from Naples and Rome. Small ferries run from Salerno to the Amalfi coast and Capri from April to October and from Agropoli in July and August.
The people
Last but not least – the people. Southern Italians are known for their warmth and hospitality so you will never be short of friends.
